Ivushki Ивушки Russia These notes ©2018, Andrew Carnie, based on the teaching of Tineke and Maurits van Geel at a workshop in Tucson Arizona, January 30 and 31, 2018. The dance was choreographed by Maurits van Geel based on traditional steps and styling he researched in preparing a suite of dances for the International Dance Theatre in the Netherlands. The title translates as "The Little Willow Tree". The van Geels spell this dance the Dutch way: Iwushki. The dance starts as a circle, with the W on the R. No hand hold. Hands are out to sides. These notes were created with Tineke's notes open in front of me, so they are heavily influenced by her notes. The name of the song and dance is a man's name. Tineke learned this dance from Liudvig Poghosian on a folk dance tour in 2007. The dance is part of the shoror family. Music : Barev-Armenian Dances. Tineke van Geel. Meter : 6/4 counted with two major dance beats (123)(456). For the purposes of these notes, I'm notating it as two dance beats per bar (1,2) Formation : Tineke's notes say closed circle (when Tineke taught it to us, however, she did it as an open circle. The dance was choreographed by Tineke based on traditional steps she learned in her field work. These notes were heavily influenced by the van Geels' own notes. Maurits and Tineke set these traditional steps to a piece of Greek Music that they love.
