Klapperstycket Sweden These notes ©2018, Andrew Carnie. This is an Engelska from Skane in Sweden. We learned it from Nancy Bannister who learned it from Ami Kinnison. Nancy has notes written in Swedish that suggest the dance was described by Mandelgran in 1864, but there may be evidence of the dance from records in the 1820s or 30s. Part 1: Circles Bars 1-8: holding hands down in circle of 4, Circle L 16 steps, starting with L foot Bars 9-16: Still starting with L foot, Circle R 16 Steps Chorus: Bars 1-8, Drop hands and face partner: Do 8 reel steps in place, starting by stepping back on L foot. Music : https://youtu.be/Ul-YlEyS0rY , 40 Bar Waltz Meter : 3/4 Formation : Couple facing couple around the room in Sicilian/Circassian Circle Formation. Introduction: Bow on chord and then start. Bars 1-2: Facing opposite, holding inside hands (hands closest to partner) with opposite, balance forward and back Bars 3-4: With W dancing under M's am (passing to his R), exchange places, ending facing partner. Bars 5-8: repeat bars 1-4 with partner. Bars 9-16: repeat bars 1-8 Bars 17-20: Form a circle of 4, balance in and out, then W rolls across man to her R, exchanging hands Bars 21-32; Repeat bars 17-20, three more times Bars 33-40: With partner, waltz around the room in ballroom hold and find another couple to start the dance with again. This dance was choreographed out of steps seen by Rod LaFarge at various Montevergine Festas in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania Music : Cinderella Tarantella, Victor 25-0127 Meter : 6/8 Formation : Two couples in a square. W on M's R. Introduction : None, start right away Footwork : Either Light running steps (2 per measure) or a Pas-de-basque step. Start with R foot. Castanets : the dancers may optionally click castanets. One click per step. Part 1: Circle Bars 1-2; Hold hands in a V position and circle to the right using a grape vine step: Step on R to R to start then step on left behind.
