These notes ©2017, Andrew Carnie. Originally taught to us by Elena Dimitrova at a workshop in Tucson on December 12, 2017. There are other versions of this dance notated on this site. One is a basic simple version, the other is a couple dance choreographed by Jaap Leegwater. This version is very similar to the first step of Iliana Božanova's Snošti Minah Kate. The dance is the Bulgarian version of the Greek Dance Syrtos.
Music: Any Bulgarian Širto tune.
Meter: 7/8 counted as SQQ.
Formation: Open circle, hands in W position, leads to the R.
Introduction: start at the beginning of any musical phrase
Bar 1: Lift (čukče) on L (&), Step R in LOD (S), Step on L in LOD (Q), Step R in LOD (Q)
Bar 2: Repeat bar 1 with opposite footwork
Bar 3: Lift on L (&), Facing center, cross R over L arms swing down (S), Step on L to L arms swing back(Q), Step on R behind L, arms swing forward (Q),
Bar 4: Lift on R, arms swing back up to W position (&), Step L to L (S), Cross R over L (Q), Step back in place on L (Q)
repeat until the end of the music.
